In their all-new PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 excavators, Komatsu claims to have ‘raised the curtain’ on what they call ‘the most technologically advanced excavators ever and the frontrunners of the next generation Komatsu excavators’.
Welcoming their release at bauma 2025, their distributor in Ireland, McHale Plant Sales said: “we look forward to the commencement of deliveries in Autumn. Then will Irish customers have the opportunity to view their many features close-up”.
Noting that order books opened on March 17th – a day of celebration for all Irish people across the world – McHale Plant Sales director, Denis McGrath commented: “both new models promise to meet the needs and expectations of the construction plant and civil works sectors whilst underlining Komatsu’s determination to remain a leader in its industry”.
In addition to what they call ‘their breath-taking aesthetics’, features of the new machines are said to include ‘intuitive ergonomics, extreme fuel efficiency, ultra-low emissions, effortless performance, never-before-seen levels of digitalisation in a construction machine’.
With innovative safety systems that ‘can co-exist in one outstanding driver-focused package’, the PC220LC/LCi-12 is built on an all-new Komatsu engine and a next generation ultra-efficient hydraulic system that Komatsu says ‘work together to deliver uncompromising power, stunning productivity, razor sharp reflexes, and single digit litre/hr fuel consumption: benefits that, as well as helping customers to meet carbon emission targets –‘will have enormous bottom line benefits’.
Its massive cabin focuses on the driver through what they claim is ‘a cutting-edge easy-to- navigate, 8-inch touchscreen’.
Other innovative features are ‘ultra-versatile and programmable super-ergonomic electronic control-levers; Komatsu’s payload meter, 2D machine control, 2D boundary control, customisable hydraulic settings; and a new P+ mode which Komatsu says: ‘helps deliver off-the-scale production’.
Massive storage space, joystick steering, and an operator ID system that houses up to x50 profiles, equips each excavator with the capability to automatically recognise its authorised driver from a bank of stored profiles via an electronic key or typed ID.
In PC220LCi specification, its third generation Intelligent Machine Control (iMC3.0) system allows any operator to drive like a pro, whether controlling a tilt-rotator, benefitting from the safety of the industry first 3D boundary control system, or automatically steering to a line.
The new, crystal clear, state-of-the-art 10-inch iMC3.0 monitor adds to the ultimate driver experience. With Smart Construction Remote bundled with iMC3.0 as standard, Komatsu states that ‘it has never been easier’ for users to get connected, stay connected, and in control, 24/7.
Welcoming their introduction, McHale Plant Sales director, Denis McGrath says: “future proofing is standard through an easy upgrade kit option that can transform any PC220LC-12 into a fully functional PC220LCi-12”.
“Moreover, the PC220LC/LCi-12 comes with a host of advanced safety features that include a 360-degrees KomVision system, easy access and egress, remote courtesy lights, rollover avoidance indicator, travel heading indicator, high visibility handrails, tilting left hand pod, and parallel wiper” he added.
