New Holland Agriculture raises the bar on productivity and comfort with the new BigBaler 1290 High Density, making it the most efficient large square baler in its segment. It produces bales of up to 22% higher density than conventional large square balers, significantly increasing transport and bale handling efficiency. The new MaxiSweep™ pick-up helps feeding crop at higher rates, resulting in increased capacity and performance. It also introduces the unique SmartShift™ gearbox, winner of the Agritechnica Silver Medal, that delivers a soft start up resulting in greater comfort for the operator and overload protection for the tractor’s driveline. The unique patented Loop MasterTM knotting technology ensures best-in-class solid binding and protects the environment and the forage by eliminating twine offcuts. The short drawbar concept ensures excellent visibility for the operator and manoeuvrability. Comfort is further enhanced with a new intuitive user interface using the large IntelliView IV touchscreen display. A range of automated features, such as the IntelliCruise™ technology system which automatically adjusts tractor speed, add to the productivity and comfort of the BigBaler 1290 High Density.
Simon Nichol, Hay & Forage Product Management, stated: “The BigBaler 1290 High Density sets new standards in efficiency and productivity, delivering greater profitability by maximising bale weight and reducing handling and transport costs. It is ideal for the professional baling contractor and large-scale farmer, who will enjoy the profitability benefits resulting from the higher productivity and lower Total Cost of Ownership.”
Up to 22% higher density than conventional large square balers
The BigBaler 1290 High Density features the longest bale chamber in its segment, at 4.05 metres, and impressively high plunger force. With a 748 mm stroke, the plunger force is significantly maximized to reach as much as 58% more than Plus models, for even denser bales. The heavy-duty density ring features three top-mounted double-acting cylinders and two left and right, which is unique in this application. The double-acting cylinders are controlled by two hydraulic pumps and ensure full density within the first bales, when starting up with an empty bale chamber.
The BigBaler 1290 High Density also carries over from the previous model all the benefits of the highly efficient CropCutter™ system and the pre-compression chamber technology specifically developed for high density baling.
All these features, together with the higher rotor speed compared to the PLUS models, result in outstanding efficiency in baling the field, fewer bales per field, more tons per trailer: higher productivity with time and transport cost savings.
Increased productivity and comfort with unique award-winning SmartShift™ gearbox
The unique driveline concept, winner of the Agritechnica Silver Medal, features a two-speed powershift start-up technology that delivers a smooth baler engagement with a 79% increase in torque. The operator engages the baler at a tractor PTO speed of 850 rpm, the SmartShift™gearbox automatically shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, accelerating to a maximum flywheel speed of 1440 rpm at full tractor PTO speed – one of the highest flywheel speeds in the segment. This smooth start-up process protects the tractor and baler drivelines. The flywheel is significantly heavier than on BigBaler Plus models and has a 16% larger diameter, coming in at 1080 mm. The flywheel’s higher speed and larger size deliver 230% more energy, resulting in more comfortable and efficient baling. A multi-plate brake with internal cooling, integrated in the gearbox, slows down the plunger and brings it to a stop when it reaches the optimum start position. It also serves as an emergency brake capable of bringing the plunger to a halt safely within 8 seconds. Additional customer benefits include the service mode with slow driveline rotation and overload protection. Also contributing to theBigBaler 1290 High Density’s high productivity is the new 2.35-metre MaxiSweep™ pick-up, which is perfect for the widest swaths left by today’s high-capacity combines.
Superior and highly efficient 29 knife CropCutter™ system
The CropCutter™ system guarantees a controlled cutting action and superior fine cutting quality thanks to the 29 knives with individual knife spring protection and paired rotor fingers per knife. The higher rotor speed compared to the PLUS models also guarantees a higher throughput in all conditions.
Plastic-free forage with the Loop MasterTM knotting technology that eliminates twine offcuts and increases tensile strength
The BigBaler 1290 High Density features New Holland’s Loop MasterTM knotting technology, which builds on the brand’s proven double-knotting system introducing a loop-style second knot. This results in up to 26% more tensile strength that reduces breakages and eliminates twine offcuts. The benefits are two-fold: on the one hand, it eliminates over six kilometres or 46 kg of twine offcuts in a 10,000-bale season; these offcuts, which are currently left in the field, will stay out of the environment and the customer’s forage. On the other hand, it ensures very tight knots, which significantly reduces twine snapping, an annoyance for every baler driver.
The new, extra-large twine box accommodates 36 XL twine spools and is already compatible with future XXL spools weighing up to 15kg. All 36 twine spools can be connected simultaneously, so that it is possible to bale as many as 1,400 bales without reloading. The twine is also extremely easy to load: the baler’s hydraulic axles allow the twine box to be lowered closer to the ground. The twine box unit has been fitted with a hydraulic system, which means it can swing fully out, making cleaning even easier.
Industry-first hydraulic axle concept with large tandem wheels
The BigBaler 1290 High Density introduces a new hydraulic axle concept with a hydraulic suspension that delivers improved ground following and ensures perfect weight distribution across the four wheels for low roll resistance. This not only improves the baler’s road and field performance, it also reduces tyre wear. The hydraulic axle concept also provides excellent access for maintenance, as no leave springs block the area. The BigBaler 1290 High Density offers larger diameter tyres of up to 1.4 metres, which reduce soil compaction. The customer has a choice between two large wheel sizes, both of which remain within a 3-metre road width.
Designed for durability and low cost of ownership
The BigBaler 1290 High Density, developed at CNH Industrial’s Design Centre, is designed and built to last. The new heavy-duty frame has been designed to manage the higher density loads this baler experiences, with the new gearbox mounting design that attaches the gearbox to the top, ensuring durability and reduced crop accumulation. The new needle yoke reclaim system provides reliable needle protection.
The new super duty main gearbox has two drive gears driving the main output gear which means there is an increased gear-to-gear surface contact area for increased durability and more efficient balanced power load distribution.
“With the new BigBaler 1290 High Density, New Holland invests to further enrich in its Hay & Forage offering,’ commented Carlo Lambro, New Holland Brand President. “This latest model, built at our Centre of Harvesting Excellence in Zedelgem, Belgium, is the culmination of more than 30 years of baling excellence, and once again raises the bar on the performance we offer our customers.”
