New Renault 4 e-tech electric gets exclusive Irish reveal

The all-new electric Renault 4 made its Irish debut recently at the Renault Store in Dundrum Town Centre. It’s the second EV from Renault inspired by older Renault models, following on from the much-anticipated Renault 5. The new Renault 4 E-Tech electric will be available to order for 252 registrations.

The original Renault 4 was launched in the early sixties as a practical and affordable family car for the masses and this new electric version takes both design and practicality cues from it.

Renault claims that the new Renault 4 E-Tech 100% electric offers versatility and everyday practicality in the B segment. The design references the original Renault 4 with a unique single piece illuminated grille, a modern reinvention of the three-part rear lights, and countless other touches.

The new 2025 model comes on an extended 2.62m wheelbase for generous cabin space. It has impressive 420 litre boot space and comes complete with clever bag hooks and storage compartments – including a 35-litre underfloor area for the charging cable.

There will be a choice of 52kWh battery with 150hp motor and a WLTP range of up to 409km, or 40 kWh battery and 120hp motor with a WLTP range of 308km with heat pump on both. The 11kW AC bi-directional charger is combined with DC charging of 100kW for the 52kWh car and 80 kW for the 40kWh car.

The new Renault 4 is slightly bigger and roomier than Renault 5 E-Tech electric, Renault 4 E-Tech electric is targeting a broader audience, seeking to convert everyone to electric vehicles, including young families.

Renault claims that the tailgate is bigger than it appears, an effect achieved by extending the door into the bumper for a bigger opening and lower load sill, in the same way as on the original Renault 4.

Like its 1970’s predecessor, the new-generation model also offers a plein sud TM opening canvas roof, which is now electric and can be opened with voice control to reveal an 80×92 cm view of the sky.

Renault claims that the new Renault 4 is packed with advanced comfort and safety technology, including Active Driver Assist for level 2 assisted driving, 26 driving aids, rear occupant safe exit alert, and My Safety Switch.

The central 10-inch multimedia screen is standard with OpenR Link system with Google built-in well as Reno, the official Renault avatar, a new Chat GPT based everyday companion.

The suspension has been optimised for a smoother, more comfortable ride for all occupants, while the steering system has been revised with a shorter ratio (14:5) and a tight turning circle of just 10.8m, perfect for city streets and easy driving.

This new Renault 4 comes with a 11 kW AC bidirectional charger compatible with V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technologies. In this way, it can be transformed into an energy source and even become a player in the ecosystem by feeding carbon-free electricity back into the grid. Ireland currently has no energy tariffs suitable for V2G vars, but these will come, and the Renault 4 E-Tech electric is ready.
